Whiskey Neat at Old Ebbitt Grill

This week I was in Washington D.C. and had the opportunity to go to Old Ebbitt Grill, “The Oldest Saloon in Washington” - packed with history, good food and good drinks.

Old Ebbitt Grill is mentioned in my novel on page 157. The year is 1964, and one of my main characters, Hannah, and another character, Weston, dine together there and get to know each other. It is a small but pivotal scene where both Hannah and Weston deepen their bond in a revealing conversation after a stressful day.

Old Ebbitt Grill has “Grant’s Bar” - a bar at the back of the establishment that has a painting of Mathew Brady’s iconic photo of General Grant during the Civil War. President Grant is featured in the novel I’m currently working on, so Old Ebbitt Grill feels like a place where my inspirations have come together. I’m really excited about the book I’m working on and I hope to find a publisher that will be excited about it and get it out into the world!

If you are in Washington, D.C. I would say that Old Ebbitt Grill is a must see. It is a beautiful location packed with art, history and great food and drink.
